Adapei Var Méditerranée

Created in 1961, the Adapei Var-Méditerranée is a charitable association for people with disabilities in the Var. Today, it manages 26 establishments and special services for people with disabilities and allows more than 1000 children and adults to be supported in an environment adapted to their age, disability and capacities.

To offer autistic children and their families some respite, Adapei created, in partnership with Un Pas Vers La Vie chaired by Églantine Eméyé, a respite care service for children with autism or serious behavioral difficulties. The establishment, named « Maison de Répit Belle Etoile » has 8 bedrooms reserved for children and adolescents and is able to accommodate between 80 and 100 children a year for 3 to 90 days supported by a paramedical team trained in autism.
The educational and therapeutic teams offer different types of support adapted to the child, including respite for families who need time to themselves with their child elsewhere, emergency stays to help out during a crisis moment and periodic stays to enable children to discover different forms of relationships or gently prepare them for separations (boarding school or a move into the adult sector).
In 2016, deeply moved by this innovative project, the Foundation helped to finance the renovation of the Maison de Répit Belle-Etoile, as well as educational and teaching equipment specifically designed to meet the needs of children with serious behavioral problems.
