New Buildings & Ship Management Careers

CMA CGM is a world-leading container shipping and transport group with a fleet of  more than 500 vessels, including some of the largest in the world. Container ships offer a wealth of career opportunities for young or experienced professionals, both at sea and inland.

Our expert teams work together to design, create, arm, equip and operate our container ships. Their joint objective is to ensure that our customers’ cargo always reaches its destination safely and maintain a level of service that exceeds their expectations, while protecting both the crew and the environment at the same time.

One container ship, a wealth of career opportunities

Equip

Our subsidiary CMA SHIPS brings together all elements of our maritime activity from our vessel fleet to our crew members. Our experts at CMA SHIPS have a wide range of responsibilities including embarkment, navigation, technical maintenance, spare part supply, food supply, developing and implementing new building projects and more.

Building & Development

Our experienced engineers and seafarers participate in the development of our leviathans. They optimize the design of our ships by taking into account their commercial function, safety needs and the protection of the environment. They are also responsible for purchasing provisions and ensuring that all maintenance and repairs are performed.

Sailing

On board our  officers and key personal including the Captain, Chief Officer and Chief Engineer direct the ship's commercial operations through its sailing and mechanical operations while the other members of the crew (Chef, Steward, seamen etc.) take care of daily life on board and the maintenance of the ship.

Supplies

To ship our customers' cargo, our fleet needs fuel and port services such as pilotage, moorage, towing and crane operations, but also provisions and consumables for those who live onboard. Our buyers, specialists in their field, negotiate with suppliers all over the world.

Become a 'superintendent' expert at CMA Ships

Former seafarers who’ve grown up in engine rooms and shipyards, the superintendent experts at CMA CGM know our vessels inside out and are perfectly at ease aboard.

Their mission today is to maintain our vessels in tip-top seaworthy condition and guarantee their technical performance always meets the highest standards of naval engineering (certificates, international rules, consumption, dry docks etc.).

While CMA SHIPS is based in Marseille, our superintendent experts also move regularly around the globe to stay close to our naval fleet, our industrial facilities and our crews and provide their support.

Men, women, sea-lovers...our superintendent engineers are all passionate individuals and our vessels have no more secrets them.

Testimony : Stéphane

"Following my maritime studies (DESMM), I navigated all types of different vessels for 10 years.

In 2006, I wanted to find a position on the ground and CMA CGM was top of my list. The group offers rich, diverse and highly challenging opportunities at the Head Office based in Marseilles and through its network of agencies all over the world.

As CMA Ships, I am responsible for the maintenance and performance of these vessels with the support of various departments:

  • The New Building Department which manages the construction of our  vessels’ from design to delivery.
  • The Innovation and Technology Department which studies and monitors our vessels and develops new technologies to meet evolving regulations regarding commerce, safety and environmental protection.
  • The Safety, Security and Environment Department.
  • The Dry Dock Department which follows technical breaks scheduled in dry dock.
  • The Human Resources Department which manages crew members.
  • The Purchasing Department which manages the supply of goods to be delivered all over the world.

All these departments bring their support and expertise to our Engineer Superintendants and technical assistants to make sure we navigate our container ships across the seas and oceans of the world while adhering to strict schedules and ensuring the security of our seafarers and the protection of the environment."

...I love evolving in a multicultural and ever-changing environment...Fleet Manager (graduated ENSM Marseille)
