The CMA CGM Foundation takes action against food poverty

In France, 10% of people heavily rely on food aid.

The Foundation has decided to respond to this issue by providing people in need with access to a healthy and varied diet. The Foundation notably does this through its support to France’s leading food aid organizations, namely Restos du Cœur and Banques Alimentaires.

Thanks to the Foundation’s support, 2 million meals will be distributed to people in need, in both mainland France and overseas territories.

In addition to this financial support, the CMA CGM Group’s expertise, logistics facilities, and employee skills will be harnessed to enhance these initiatives’ effectiveness.

A groundbreaking partnership with Restos du Cœur in mainland France

Restos du Cœur, a charity founded in 1985 by Coluche, a famous French comedian and actor, aims to provide assistance free of charge to the neediest, with a special focus on free meals and social and professional integration, as well as efforts to fight poverty in all its forms. Under the partnership, a million meals were distributed in mainland France, in particular in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, Le Havre, and Dunkirk. Alongside these handouts, CMA CGM employees’ supply chain and warehouse management expertise will be put at the service of the charity’s teams.

Commitment to the French federation of food banks in French overseas territories

The CMA CGM Foundation is pursuing its commitment to the organization, which began in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic with 40,000 meals handed out. Under this renewed partnership, the French food bank federation will be able to supply 1 million meals, mainly in Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Reunion Island. Through its Containers of Hope program, the CMA CGM Foundation will provide at no cost 17 refrigerated containers to transport frozen products to island locations. It will also donate 5 containers to increase the storage and distribution capabilities of the overseas territories’ food banks.

Tapping employees’ know-how to enhance the non-profits’ effectiveness

To help these two organizations reach their goals, the CMA CGM Group’s employees will work alongside volunteers and participate in major annual collections, product sorting, package preparation, and meal distribution. Employees can contribute under the CMA CGM Group’s skills-based volunteering program, enabling those based in France to devote five days per year of their working time to non-profits.
