CMA CGM Group is dedicated to fostering an environment where every individual can thrive. As part of its commitment to gender diversity, the Group has set a goal to achieve 30% female representation among its top 400 executives by 2028 and initiatived a Gender Diversity Plan. Through various initiatives, this plan aims to ensure 50% female participation in leadership programs while prioritizing gender parity in succession planning, promotions, and talent development, and promoting inclusion at every stage of an employee's career.
Women Empowerment
Since 2018, CMA CGM has launched a dedicated program to foster women leadership, initially named "We Are Shipping," which evolved in 2023 to become "WE – Women Empowerment. To date, five cohorts of the program have been launched in France, Lebanon, and India, providing training, mentoring, and personalized career support to 77 female employees within the Group.
She sails
In 2024, CMA CGM introduced "She Sails," a program designed to make seafaring careers more appealing to women. The initiative is built on three key pillars: attracting young women to maritime professions, fostering female leadership, and retaining women by creating an equitable workplace environment with strong career development opportunities. The Group aims to have 500 women among its seafaring staff by 2026, more than doubling the current number. To achieve this, the program is closely integrated with maritime academies across five continents.
Elles Bougent
The Group has formed a partnership with "Elles Bougent" to promote diversity and support talent from diverse backgrounds. Established in 2005, this organization aims to inspire young girls to explore career opportunities in technical and industrial fields, through mentorship programs and events. CMA CGM mentors actively participate in "Elles Bougent" initiatives held at schools.
WISTA
Since 2025, the Group has been a member of WISTA, the international network dedicated to women in leadership roles within the maritime industry. Christine Cabau, Executive Vice President of Assets and Operations at CMA CGM, serves as an honorary member of this esteemed organization. Founded in 2004, WISTA's mission is to promote the advancement of women in the maritime sector. By fostering gender balance, WISTA aims to enhance performance, diversity, attractiveness, and sustainable development within the French maritime industry.
Combating Cognitive Biases
In 2024, all Group recruiters and HR staff underwent training as part of the "Recruit Without Discrimination" program. Additionally, mandatory e-learning modules were made available to all Group employees to help prevent discrimination. These modules included raising awareness about unconscious biases, supported by the "One Month, One Bias" campaign.
