Reducing your environmental impact with shipping: it's possible!

The product you purchased was delivered more sustainably on board a CMA CGM vessel. Using biofuel, the lowest carbon-intensive energy available, 84% of carbon emissions on the maritime transport were reduced.
Did you know that maritime transport is currently the least polluting means of transport?
Here, at the CMA CGM Group, a global player in sea, land, air and and logistics solutions, we have the ambition to be net zero carbon by 2050.
But how can we reach this goal? By taking concrete actions like bunkering our fleet of vessels with alternative fuels.
One of the alternative energy solutions is biofuel. At CMA CGM we use a second-generation biofuel produced with used cooking oils to avoid impacting agricultural lands and forests.
The Group has chosen to adopt a responsible purchasing policy for biofuels. The biomethane and biodiesel supplied by the Group are produced exclusively from organic waste. These criteria ensure that biofuels do not compete with food and that they significantly reduce green-house gas emissions.
The second-generation biofuels available today are also intended for use in road transport and aviation. The CMA CGM Group, as part of the Coalition for Future Energy in Transport and Logistics, is working with its partners to create a sustainable marine fuel with properties suitable for ship engines and cheaper to produce.

To offer biofuel on all its shipping lines, CMA CGM utilizes the Mass Balance Concept
What is the Mass Balance Concept?
Understanding the Mass Balance Concept
The Mass Balance Concept is the best way to gradually replace fossil fuel with alternative energies and make them available on all its shipping lines:
- CMA CGM considers the exact quantities of each type of fuel used by the vessel fleet.
- They calculate the fuel consumption for each container on each voyage.
- As such, it is possible to allocate a precise quantity of a certain type of fuel to a container, ensuring that the product you’ve purchased is transported with sustainable energy.
By reducing our carbon emissions during shipping, we are acting in Better Ways.
