Un pas vers la Mer: the CMA CGM Foundation supports the second edition of the program

Reading time: 2 min

The second edition of “Un pas vers la Mer”, a program the CMA CGM Foundation is supporting for the second year running, was launched today at the Cercle des Nageurs de Marseille.

This program is run by the “Marseille Capitale de la Mer” association to address the paradoxical fact that 60% of Marseille residents do not know how to swim when they enter to middle school. This project will enable 150 young Marseillans to learn swimming in the emblematic pools of the Cercle des Nageurs de Marseille, a French swimming institution since 1921. From July 18th to August 19th, in addition to the swimming lessons, these children will benefit from a complete program to help them discover the Mediterranean Sea: through ecological workshops and navigation sessions.

The “Marseille Capitale de la Mer” association has been carrying a powerful message for years: the need to reconnect the people of Marseille with their coastline. The history of the CMA CGM Group and its Foundation has always been written across the oceans, and we are pleased to support Marie Dominique Champloy and Patrick Fancello in their conviction. Last year, their structure was supported by the social incubator “Le Phare”, which aims to accelerate projects with an educational goal and an critical social impact. They were helped by CMA CGM Group staff in structuring their association to bring their message to national and European institutional players.

We wish all these youngsters good luck in these weeks of learning!
