Third Infant Milk Operation for Lebanon: the CMA CGM Foundation supplies, transports and distributes 17 tons of powdered infant milk

Reading time: 3 min

Lebanon is experiencing an unprecedented economic and social crisis. Waves of shortages are occurring, particularly of infant milk, which affects around 60% of children under the age of 3. Considered as a source of essential nutrients, these infant formulas help minimize the risk of deficiencies during the crucial period of a child’s growth when breastfeeding milk is no longer matching the daily children’s needs.

Three "Infant Milk" operations to meet the basic needs of Lebanese children

Committed to helping the Lebanese population through the support of local NGOs, to be able to face the difficulties affecting the country, the CMA CGM Foundation has conducted three infant milk operations including the purchase, delivery and distribution since 2021.

The first two operations enabled the distribution of 10 tons of powdered milk back in 2021. In April 2022, the third operation was conducted with the purchase, transportation and distribution of 17 tons of powdered milk. This way, all three operations have aimed at helping more than 8,000 babies and children under the age of three across Lebanon.

A large-scale operation with trusted partners

This humanitarian aid operation was conducted with the support of the French Embassy in Lebanon. The distribution to families was made possible thanks to the maritime and logistical expertise of CMA CGM including its subsidiary CEVA Logistics, and the fifteen partner NGOs: Al-Tawarek Foundation, Lebanese Food Bank, Ruwwad Al Tanmeya, LIBAMI, BASSMA Association, RANS Association, Centre de la Jeunesse Catholique (CJC), Rghif Rahmé Welfare Association, Achrafieh 2020, Enfants de Lumière, Assameh Birth & Beyond, Offrejoie, arcenciel, Société Saint-Vincent de Paul and Infant & Martenity.

A strong commitment by the CMA CGM Foundation in Lebanon

The latest large-scale operation marks the continuous commitment of the CMA CGM Foundation towards Lebanese people. Indeed, since the major socio-economic crisis:

  • 4,000 tons of humanitarian aid have been transported free of charge thanks to the “Containers of Hope” program, and also as part of the operation "A Humanitarian Ship for Lebanon", mobilizing an entire vessel, the AKNOUL, fully loaded of essential needs in support of the population following the Beirut blast in August 2020
  • 105 tons of food and hygiene products were purchased from local producers and distributed through 26 NGO partners accross the country
  • 2,600 school tuitions were covered through the FORSA program in partnership with the Beit El Baraka association to enable school pupils to pursue their education.
