My CMA CGM GROUP PLANET WEEK: relive the sustainability event of the year

Reading time: 10 min

My CMA CGM Group Planet Week comes to an end: 3 days of exchanges to bring together the CMA CGM Group staff members around our environmental commitments.

Discover six learnings of this exceptional event that brought together experts, customers, partners and employees around a common goal - reducing our environmental footprint - and allowed everyone to learn about best practices and discover the actions implemented by the Group.

Initiating a virtuous circle

Gas-powered vessels, investment in the energy transition, actions undertaken with the Coalition for the Energy of the Future... Our CEO Rodolphe Saadé shared with staff members his strategic vision for the environment and the fight against global warming. In this area, the CMA CGM Group has already distinguished itself for many years by its pioneering spirit, which inspires our entire industry.

Reaching for the sky

We know him for his round-the-world adventures, in a hot air balloon and then on board Solar Impulse, the first solar airplane, but also for his commitment to the environment, which we share with him!

We were all very pleased to welcome explorer and environmentalist Bertrand Piccard and listen to his testimony.

Building a zero-emissions future

Invited to discuss our strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, Sturla Henriksen, Special Advisor to the United Nations Global Compact, praised CMA CGM's efforts to build a zero-emissions future.

Staying the course

10% by 2023: this is the percentage of alternative fuels that will make up our energy mix by 2023.

We have chosen to use gas-powered vessels since 2017. These ships, which today run on LNG and bio-LNG, allow us to reduce atmospheric pollutant emissions almost completely - greatly improving air quality - and are a first step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The technology used on these vessels also gives us the technical capability to use e-methane (instead of LNG), a carbon-neutral fuel source. This "e-methane ready" fleet is currently composed of 18 vessels already in service and will include 44 vessels by the end of 2024.

Encouraging local initiatives

Every day, our staff members are involved in the field with local communities to implement concrete actions in favor of biodiversity, the climate and environmental awareness. They embody our ambition for a more sustainable and responsible transport industry worldwide.
