A major social innovation initiated by the CMA CGM Foundation
Inaugurated on December 6, 2024, in the presence of Mrs. Brigitte Macron, the Solidarity Warehouse is a pioneering social initiative in France. Supported by the CMA CGM Foundation, it offers over 5,000m² of storage space, including cold rooms, to 5 major French food aid organizations.
With a capacity to store up to 3,200 tonnes of food, the warehouse currently supplies 330 distribution points in Marseille and the Bouches-du-Rhône region, enabling the delivery of 10 million meals per year.
This large-scale solidarity project, led by the CMA CGM Foundation, is supported by the French State, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region, and the City of Marseille.
The need for a solidarity-based supply chain to address food insecurity in the overseas territories
For several years, the CMA CGM Foundation has been actively supporting organizations that fight food insecurity, with a particular focus on Overseas territories.
The French Federation of Food Banks and the ANDES network of solidarity grocery stores benefit from this support through: transporting food supplies from mainland France, staff engagement from CMA CGM Group employees, and financial contributions that help fund the purchase and distribution of thousands of meals.
This visit provided an opportunity for a collective discussion on how to replicate this solidarity logistics platform model in the overseas territories, where enhancing the logistical capacities of local associations is crucial to effectively combat food insecurity.
