Jean-François Tallec appointed Advisor on French Maritime Policy by the CMA CGM Group

 

Jean-François Tallec, former Prefect and Secretary General of the Sea, joins the CMA CGM Group as Advisor on French Maritime Policy.


A graduate with a Masters in Economic Sciences from the EAAM (Ecole d’Administration des Affaires Maritimes) and merchant navy school (Ecole Nationale de la Marine Marchande), Jean-François Tallec began his career in 1966 as a Merchant Navy Officer. He then spent 13 years in Maritime Affairs Administration, first as Manager of the Agde CROSS (regional sea rescue centre), then deputy to the District Manager for Maritime Affairs at Brest, Professor at the EAAM and lastly Maritime Affairs Department Director for Guadeloupe.


Jean-François Tallec then entered France’s prefecture administration (representing the State at a regional level), first as Chief of Staff for the Prefect of Corrèze (1984-1985) then the Loiret (1985-1987), before being appointed Sub-Prefect for Toul (1987-1989).


From 1989 to 1991 Mr Tallec worked in the Ministry for France’s overseas territories (DOM-TOM), where his duties included heading up the General Secretariat of the inter-ministerial mission to rebuild Guadeloupe after cyclone Hugo. He was then appointed Secretary General in Guadeloupe, then Secretary General for Regional Affairs Midi-Pyrénées (1997) and Sub-Prefect for Dunkirk (1997-2001).


In February 2001, Mr Tallec was appointed Prefect of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon; then Prefect of Indre (2002-2005), the Yonne (2005-2007) and the Dordogne (2007). In November 2008, he was made Secretary General of the Sea in the Council of Ministers.
