The CMA CGM Group, a world leader in shipping and logistics, is pleased to announce that Energy Observer, the world’s first hydrogen-powered vessel to embark on a round-the-world voyage, successfully departed Saint-Malo yesterday. As a strategic partner, the CMA CGM Group and all of its employees wish Energy Observer and its crew fair winds and following seas.

A shared challenge: to deploy hydrogen on a large scale in the shipping industry

During its four-year odyssey across the seas, CMA CGM will contribute its industrial expertise to this “floating lab”, in order to promote the use of hydrogen as a zero-emission fuel source for the shipping industry. The green hydrogen used by Energy Observer is an inexhaustible source of energy that results in no greenhouse gas or fine particle emissions either when it is produced or burnt.

A unifying partnership that is speeding up the development of innovative environmental solutions

CMA CGM will also contribute its shipping and logistics skills to Energy Observer. The Energy Observer village, which consists of shipping containers converted and transported with large-scale operational support from the whole CMA CGM global network, will make its first port of call in Tokyo for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It will travel the globe, presenting the latest technological innovations to the largest possible number of people and raising awareness about ecological transition issues among all audiences.
