Reading time: 4 min

The CMA CGM Foundation has swung into action alongside non-profits to lead large-scale community outreach programs in Marseille to help break down barriers and overcome loneliness during the holiday season after a year shaped by an unprecedented health, social and economic crisis.

Four actions providing practical solutions for those in need:

  • L’Escale du Partage: 40,000 meals distributed with the Bouches-du-Rhône department food bank.
  • La Connexion de la Réussite: donation of 65 computers via the École de la 2ème Chance [Second Chance School] organization.
  • Des bateaux et des sourires: gift of 260 Vilac wooden toy boats to all the children attending the Parc Bellevue elementary school in Marseille’s 3rd arrondissement.
  • Le Conteneur à jouets: the collecting of toys and books donated by CMA CGM Group employees and organized with Emmaüs so that all children receive a Christmas present.

CMA CGM Group employees involved in looking after their community

The Group’s employees in Marseille are playing their part to help make the holiday season more caring, more joyful and less lonely for those most in need. Under the skills-based volunteering program, close to 50 of them will be involved in food bank operations, in preparing the computers donated and in coordinating the collecting of toys alongside Emmaüs volunteers. In so doing, they will help maximize the impact of the CMA CGM Foundation’s four community initiatives.

Longstanding partnerships with local community organizations

Founded in 2005, the CMA CGM Foundation supports non-profits working on the front line to help children and young people find their place in tomorrow’s world through education. It has forged close ties with the non-profit ecosystem in Marseille. In 2020, it supported nine activities in Marseille and the local region under its annual call for projects. It has also established the #MouvTaVie program in partnership with the OM Fondation, Mission Locale de Marseille and École de la 2ème Chance. It will support 40 young people from Marseille who do not have a job or qualifications and help them to join the workforce.

Tanya Saadé Zeenny, President of the CMA CGM Foundation, commented: “In these unprecedented times, the CMA CGM Foundation is taking action in Marseille through front-line initiatives alongside non-profits firmly embedded in the local area to help those in greatest need and to meet their top priorities, including food relief, efforts to combat school dropouts and break down barriers and relieve loneliness in the festive season. We are thrilled that our employees have decided to join in these impressive community initiatives, and we would like to thank them for their hard work.”
