A total of 7 million people in France are living in food poverty. The CMA CGM Foundation has decided to take concrete action by getting the Group’s employees involved in supporting the Food Banks’ National Collection.

The Food Banks’ National Collection

The French Federation of Food Banks is France’s largest food aid network, collecting products from initiatives to prevent food waste and donations to combat food poverty. On the last weekend of November each year, the Food Banks organize their National Collection at stores across France. On average, this major charitable drive involves 130,000 volunteers at more than 9,000 collection points, collecting the equivalent of 23 million meals.

CMA CGM employees give their support

On November 25, 26 and 27, 2022, 120 CMA CGM employees worked alongside the Food banks’ volunteers to support the 38th National Collection.

Employees contributed to this national initiative by offering their help with collecting foodstuffs at local supermarkets in Marseille, Le Havre, Dunkirk, La Réunion, Guadeloupe and Martinique, as well as at warehouses to sort the many donations.

Strategic partnership with the French Federation of Food Banks

This collective effort forms part of a partnership created in July 2022 between the CMA CGM Foundation and the French Federation of Food Banks to help the most vulnerable to cope with the rise in food poverty in France.

In addition to the 1 million meals guaranteed by its support, the CMA CGM Foundation has made a commitment to provide the Federation with the CMA CGM Group’s industrial tool and expertise to transport foodstuffs free of charge to the various overseas Food Banks. Through its skills sponsorship program, it also makes employees available to support the charity’s various activities when necessary.
