Containerized Bike Shelters: a solution open to everyone to help champion soft modes of transport

Today, CMA CGM opened a “bike container” unit in Marseille in partnership with "La Région Sud" and SNCF. The converted container is located at the Arenc Le Silo tram stop, close to the Arenc Euroméditerranée SNCF station and the Tour Jacques Saadé.With its 17-bikes capacity, it will be accessible 24/7 free of charge to all holders of valid city-wide public transportation passes (ZOU!, transpass, pass RTM, etc.).

CMA CGM breathes new life into its containers

CMA CGM asked its Progeco subsidiary to handle the conversion of one of its containers into a bike shelter. An opening was created in one of the sides to form a door and a perforated metal sheet panel was installed to let natural light in. Progeco also fitted the bike racks inside and handled the electrical installations (motion sensor activated lights).

The bike container is fully self-powered thanks to its solar panels. SNCF will handle operational and maintenance tasks.

CMA CGM’s unsparing daily efforts rewarded with EcoVadis’ Platinum Recognition Level

The CMA CGM Group has adopted an ambitious Sustainability policy, under which it aims to take concrete action on a daily basis. Its outstanding performance in this area has this year been rewarded with a Platinum rating, the highest possible recognition level awarded by EcoVadis, a corporate social responsibility rating agency.

This latest initiative is part of the Group’s mobility plan. Just one week ago, the CMA CGM Group installed nine charging points for electric and hybrid vehicles in its car park in partnership with Ze Watt, a French start-up.
